Each year over 100 swimmers and their families come together to practice, train and compete. We welcome and support all of them both in and out of the pool. Many swimmers started with Zeus when they were in early elementary school and continue swimming on Zeus through high school, and go on to swim in college. Both children and parents alike often form lasting friendships.
Just as Olympians are proud to swim for our country, our kids and families are proud to swim for our team, wear our colors of blue and gold, and support each other at meets. Hang around Zeus and you’ll hear lots of cheers and laughter and see a healthy bunch of dedicated and committed swimmers.
Zeus – In the Water
Zeus is well-respected throughout the swimming community in Connecticut. The team has produced exceptional swimmers who have competed at the Junior National Level and and others that have gone on to swim at colleges such as UPenn, Carnegie Mellon, NYU and Georgetown.
Zeus has achieved acclaim as a top notch club with recognition from the USA Swimming Organization, the National governing body for the sport of swimming.
Zeus – Out of the Water
Zeus isn’t just about swimming, it’s about fun and friendship. For instance, past activities have included marching in the Memorial Day Parade, a fun night out at My Three Sons arcade, a trip to Lake Compounce and our Annual Zeus Swim Banquet, where we celebrate the year’s accomplishments and honor our seniors with speeches about their Zeus experience (no dry eyes in the house).
A Long History of Success
Zeus was formed over 65 years ago at the Norwalk YMCA under the name- Norwalk Aquatic Club. It was started by International Swimming Hall-of-Famer Betty Philcox. In the 1970’s, Pat Spinola brought the team from the YMCA to the Norwalk High School Pool – aka the namesake for our pool ~ The Pat Spinola Natatorium.
The Pat Spinola Natatorium at Norwalk High School features a 25 yard, heated pool with 6 lanes. The pool has two viewing levels with large concrete stands. The facility offers a digital scoreboard and large locker rooms with showers.
Fitness exercises or “Dry Lands” training is conducted by physical trainers at Sports Performance U. The spacious and bright facility offers simple and modern equipment to improve speed, strength and conditioning.
